Defence Ministry: No CBI Probe Into VK Singh Intelligence Unit Charges

NEW DELHI: The Defence Ministry today denied news reports suggesting that the CBI may probe the misuse of secret funds to topple the Jammu and Kashmir government and change the line of succession in the top echelons of the Army by former Army Chief Gen V K Singh.

It clarified that no such decision has been taken.

In a statement, a Defence Ministry spokesman said Government had received a report from the Army HQ on certain issues relating to one of its outfits as reported by a section of the media.

“The report impinges on matters of national security and, as such, Government will take a decision and further actions after a careful examination of the report.

“Government has in place measures to prevent any such undesirable activities,” the spokesman said.

The reports in a national daily alleged that Gen Singh had ‘misused’ his secret service funds to destabilise the Jammu and Kashmir Government and had paid off an NGO to ‘change the line of succession’ in the top echelons of the Army.

Gen Singh had shared the dais with BJP’s Prime Ministerial nominee Narendra Modi at a rally in Rewari, Haryana, on September 15.
