KU-Canadian Delegation Discuss Possibilities of Collaboration

SRINAGAR: A delegation of Canadian High Commission and Vice Chancellor of the Kashmir University (KU) today discussed possibilities of collaboration in academic and research areas.

An official spokesman said a high-level delegation of Canadian High Commission called on VC Ku Prof Talat Ahmad here today.

The delegation comprising Head Political and Economic Affairs, Canadian High Commission in New Delhi, Johanne Forest, Senior Analyst in the Privy Council Office at Ottawa, Jawad Qureshi and Senior Analyst Political and Economic program of the High Commission of Canada Madhursi Das held a meeting with Prof Talat in his office during which various issues including possibilities of collaboration in academic and research areas were discussed.

Sharing his view with the visiting delegation on issues of academic collaboration and students and faculty exchange programs Prof Talat said exchange programs had several advantages, including promoting students’ intellectual development and providing economic resources for the state economy. Times are changing exponentially and cross-cultural dynamics have become an important aspect to be looked into.

We must prepare our students to deal with new challenges and equip them with the skills and appropriate knowledge, insight and understanding of cross- cultural issues, said Prof Talat Ahmad in his interaction with the delegation.

Briefing the delegation about various MOUs, KU has signed with institutions of learning across the globe Prof Talat offered to have such MOUs with institutions of higher learning in Canada also.

Prof Talat set forth the idea of initiating collaborative research projects and students and faculty exchange programs between KU and various Universities of Canada in future.

The delegation while interacting with the Vice Chancellor presented a broad spectrum of academic backgrounds and various affiliated colleges and research units and other institutions of learning in Canada. Registrar University of Kashmir Prof Zaffar Ahmad Reshi informed the delegation about what Kashmir University has been able to achieve in the years of its existence.

He also briefed the delegation about the expansion activities being undertaken presently by KU administration, including opening of satellite campuses and various courses KU is offering to the students and how they are relevant to their careers and growth.
