SRINAGAR: People can heave a sigh of relief in Jammu and Kashmir as the weather has finally improved with bright sunshine today, said the meteorological department.
For the past two days the state was witnessing below normal maximum and minimum temperatures due to snowfall on upper reaches.
There will be no large change during subsequent two days as the weather will be mainly dry over the state during the next 24 hours, the Met department said Light to moderate snowfall on upper reaches and rains in plains, including Srinagar, during the past two days in the Kashmir valley resulted in early cold, forcing people to wear woolens.
Leh recorded lowest 4.2 degrees minimum temperature in the region followed by 5 degrees at Pahalgam, Met spokesman said.
He said Srinagar recorded 24.5 degree maximum temperature yesterday, four degrees below normal. The minimum temperature during the night was 10.4 degrees, three degrees below normal in the summer capital, Srinagar.
However, sun today provided much needed relief to people.
Orchardists and farmers were happy with the weather, who are yet to collect their crops, including fruits.
The minimum and maximum temperatures will improve further but will remain below normal tomorrow, he said.
He said Leh recorded 4.2 degree minimum while it was 6.4 degrees at border town of Kargil on Srinagar-Leh highway. Pahalgam and Gulmarg recorded 5 degrees minimum temperature each, three and four degrees below normal respectively.
At Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the minimum temperature was 7.2 degrees, four degrees below normal while at Kupwara and Kokernag it was three degrees below normal.
