Afzal Guru’s ‘Last Message’ Released in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: A book in memory of Afzal Guroo, hanged in Delhi’s Tihar jail in February this year, was released in Kashmir capital Srinagar on Tuesday.

The 94-page book, titled ‘Ahli-e-Eemaan Ke Naam Shaheed Muhammad Guru Ka Aakhri Paigaam’ (Guru’s Last Message to the Muslim Believers), is based on writings Guru who was hanged in February this year.

Guru, the second Kashmiri man to be hanged since mid eighties, was convicted for his role in the 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament.

At the book launch organised by Jammu and Kashmir National Front, participants were seen emotionally charged after Sheikh Musaib, who spent time with Guru in Tihar Jail in Delhi, spoke, a local news agency, CNS, reports.

Separatist leader Nayeem Ahmed Khan read out a few lines from the book: “Guru was freedom fighter and a true religious person. Even in his last letter, which he wrote just an hour (6.25 AM) before going to gallows, he addressed his nation without caring for his own family and about his death. He was a valiant to whom Kashmiri people would owe till eternity (sic)”

During the function two video clips about 2008 and 2010 uprisings were shown to the audience.

Besides, a video footage featuring the ‘sufferings of Guru’s family’ was screened before the audience comprising journalists and students.

Besides others, Guru’s brother, Ajaz Ahmed spoke on the occasion.
