Why This Slain Youth’s Father Is Not Waiting For ‘Justice’

“Had requested authorities to allow the mourners to visit our home, instead teargas shells were lobbed in our yard.”

SHOPIAN: The family of a slain Shopian youth, Touseef Ahmed Bhat, say they don’t expect any justice from government in Kashmir.

“The track record of the security agencies and the present Government shows how after every killings culprits are let free and allowed to continue as free men,” Bhat’s father told a local news agency, CNS.

He said he expects nothing from the government. “We (only) demand the removal of the CRPF bunker located at Gagren. These CRPF men killed a youth Firdous Ahmed in 2004 and no one was booked for that murder,” he said.

“This CRPF Camp is proving to be lethal for our youth and it should be removed without any delay.”

He lamented that no one was allowed to visit his home on the “Chahrum” (fourth day after death when Muslims visit the bereaved family) of Tawseef Ahmed.

A curfew was in its fourth day today and authorities had sealed all entry points to Shopian after a march call by senior separatist leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

“We had requested authorities to allow the mourners to visit our home, instead teargas shells were lobbed in our yard.”
