Discriminatory tactics only going to deepen the divide in communally fragile region
JAMMU: Terming the latest visit of the All Party Delegation (APD) to edgy Kishtwar as a political stunt orchestrated by the National Conference party, Kashmir’s main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said the ‘sinister move’ was just vote-bank politics.
The PDP was not part of the delegation which left for Kishtwar today (monday).
Terming the Kishtwar communal violence, which claimed three lives, as “a colossal human tragedy, senior PDP leader and Legislator, Syed Asghar Hussain said “The so-called APD has no locus-standi when the state’s main opposition – PDP – has been deliberately kept out of it.
In a statement he claimed that after having put Kishtwar on fire, the ruling alliance partners were now trying to play “dirty vote-bank politics” over the catastrophe by visiting the volatile region in hordes under massive security cover.
Expressing dismay over the discriminatory arrests in the region, Asghar said that instead of rounding up the real culprits who instigated the communal riots on the auspicious day of Eid, the State Government is targeting the members of particular community by resorting to mass arrest of its youth.
He said such discriminatory tactics were only going to fuel the alienation and deepen the divide in this communally fragile region.
Demanding immediate disarming of the Village Defence Committees (VDCs), the PDP leader said after disarming its members these Committees can be converted into Village Welfare Committees (VWC) by giving proportionate representation to members of all the communities from the area.
