J&K Govt Orders Judicial Inquiry Into Kishtwar Incident

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government today ordered a judicial inquiry into the Kishtwar incident where communal clashes broke out after Eid-ul-Fitr prayers on Friday.

The government had earlier appointed Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, to probe the incident.

An official spokesman said the judicial inquiry will be conducted by a retired Judge of the High Court in a time bound manner. However, the name of the judge will be announced later.

Three people were killed and several others were wounded and property damaged in the clashes at Kishtwar and some other areas in the Jammu region, forcing authorities to impose curfew.

Cutting across party lines, mainstream parties and separatist organisations have condemned the clashes and appealed to people to maintain peace and centuries’ old traditional communal harmony.
