SRINAGAR: Expressing serious concern over the sectarian violence in central Kashmiris’ district of Budgam, the Communist Party of India (M) said such incidents are purely against Kashmir’s centuries old tradition of tolerance and brotherhood among various communities and sects.
While appealing people to maintain calm, the CPI (M) state secretary Mohammad Yousuf Targami has termed the infighting among the two sects a handiwork of elements who want to create wedge between the two communities for their vested interests.
In a statement here today he said these elements spread hatred in the name of religion and sects and try to flare up emotions of people to divide the society on sectarian lines.
Infighting among the communities can never serve any purpose of any of the community. Such type of clashes only divide the society and which is never in the interests of the people, he observed.
While urging the government to take steps required to maintain peace and tranquility in the district and other sensitive parts of the state, the CPI (M) leader also appealed to religious leaders and civil society stakeholders to put in their efforts for restoration of peace.
