Quran Protest Killings: Clashes in Kashmir, Dozens Injured

SRINAGAR: Nearly 40 people have been injured as protestors clashed with the police and paramilitaries in Kashmir valley after Friday prayers.

Authorities imposed a curfew in capital Srinagar and other major towns fearing violence.

The United News of India reports that defying restrictions hundreds of people took to the streets at Khurhama and Daderhama in the central Kashmir district of Ganderbal.

The police and paramilitaries fired pellet guns at Khurhama, wounding two. The injured were shifted to Institute of Medical Sciences.

The agency reports that 20 others, including some security personnel, were also injured in stone pelting.

Similar demonstrations and clashes were also reported from several other places in the downtown city and outskirts.

In Qazigund area of south Kashmir, thirteen people were wounded after the police fired their guns to disperse more than a thousand people who held demonstrations at the main square and also on the Srinagar-Jammu National highway.

Three protesters have received live bullets while ten others were wounded by rubber bullets.
