Union Home Minister Orders Probe Into Kashmir Killings

Omar condemned the killings as “Deplorable” and “unjustified”

SRINAGAR: The Union Home Minister has ordered a probe into the killing of protestors in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban area by the Border Security Force.

An official spokesman said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah spoke to Sushilkumar Shinde immediately after the incident.

He said that Omar condemned the killings as “Deplorable” and “unjustified”.

“It is highly unacceptable to shoot at unarmed protesters just because they were reportedly protesting manhandling of an Imam of their area,” said Omar, according to the spokesman.

“There is no justification or rationalization of this deplorable act. This shocking act warrants and demands the severest of condemnation in the strongest possible terms.”

The chief minister said such incidents could throw the valley back to days 2008 and 2010, when nearly 200 civilians died in mass public uprisings.

“It is unfortunate that inspite of costly lessons learnt in 2008 and 2010 some amongst us are determined to repeat past mistakes and use force against unarmed protesters,” he said.

The state Government has also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the killings.
