Drivers Beware! Overloading is Attempt to Murder in J-K

SRINAGAR: Drivers who overload their passenger vehicles will have an ‘attempt to murder’ case registered against them if they don’t refrain from committing the offence.

Junior minister for home affairs, Sajad Kitchloo told the Legislative Council in Jammu that steps were being taken to curb cases of rash and negligent driving, overloading and speeding by habitual offenders.

He said the government is moving to cancel the driving licences of erring drivers including those of private vehicles.

“Besides, a system has been introduced to register criminal cases under sections 304 and 307 of the Ranbir Penal Code against drivers hauled up for repeated overloading,” Kitcloo said.

The minister also told the COuncil that more than 15,000 violators, caught with their cars having tinted or filmed glasses, have been booked.

The authorities launched a drive against tinted cars after directions from India’s supreme court.
