Over 35000 Families Displaced During Kargil War: J-K Govt

SRINAGAR: The authorities on Monday said more than 35,000 families were displaced along the frontier with Pakistan from different parts of the state during the Kargil War in 1999.

“35,794 families were dislocated from Jammu, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch districts during Kargil conflict,” junior minister for home affairs, Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo told the legislative council in Jammu.

He said the displaced families were provided free ration, cash assistance of Rs 400 per head per month subject to maximum of Rs 16,00 per family per month.

He said they were also provided with a sum of Rs 300 per month for purchasing food.

“All other civic amenities like drinking water, electricity and tented accommodation were also provided to these families,” he said.
