Kashmir’s Gulmarg Freezes at -3.8

SRINAGAR: The ski resort of Gulmarg was the coldest in the region on Wednesday with minus 3.8 degrees as the minimum temperature.

A Met department spokesman also said that light rain or snow could occur at few places over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours as a Western Disturbance (WD) is approaching.

However, during subsequent two days, the weather will remain mainly dry, he said.

Gulmarg, about 55 km north of the capital Srinagar, recorded minus 3.8 degrees minimum temperature, a degree below normal.

However, in other parts of the valley, including Pahalgam, base camp of Holy Amarnath cave shrine where the annual yatra will start in last week of June, the minimum temperature was above normal.

The minimum at Pahalgam was 1.4 degrees Celsius.

The spokesman said light rain or snow could occur during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where the minimum temperature was 7.4 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal.

In cold desert region of Ladakh, the spokesperson added, sky will be partly cloudy with maximum and minimum temperatures of 11 degrees and 0 degrees Celsius respectively.
