’50 New ITIs in Offing in J-K’

JAMMU: Authorities are making efforts to promote skill development to enhance the employability of youth.

For this another 50 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) have been proposed to be set up, Minister of State for Technical Education, Vikar Rasool said on Saturday.

An official spokesman said that the minister told Assembly that government will add some new trades in the ITIs “which have the market demand so that youth, after obtaining the diplomas, get absorbed in the Government and private sector”.

He said the government is also contemplating to enhance the intake capacity of Polytechnic Colleges to train local youth in different disciplines.

The minister said “present intake capacity of the Polytechnic Colleges is 5440 and during the next year it is expected to be enhanced to 6500 seats in different job oriented courses”.

He informed the House that to train State youth in specialized trades in different disciplines this year 4000 youth have been sent outside the State.

“Over 6500 youth will be deputed for receiving skill development training in different trades during the next year,” he said.
