JAMMU, Feb 2 (1992): Wildlife officials have freed a lovelorn monkey who specialised in hugging women after keeping him caged for 66 days.
The monkey was liberated Saturday in a forest outside Jammu, the winter capital of Kashmir, as thousands of people watched. He disappeared instantly, hopping from tree to tree.
The amorous animal was caught two months ago after he molested some 30 young women patients and nurses in a hospital here, and victims complained that the monkey hugged and kissed them.
The government ordered the monkey to be shot after nurses threatened to go on strike, but he was trapped alive when devout Hindus demanded that he not be killed.
