Kashmir at Spain fair, to woo foreign tourists

JAMMU: In an effort to attract foreign tourists to Jammu and Kashmir, a delegation led by Tourism Minister Ghulam Ahmed Mir are in Spain to take part in a four-day-long international tourism and trade fair.

With more than two decades of violence which killed tens of thousands of people declining, tourism is witnessing a revival. Authorities are working overtime now to bring foreigners back to the state which was once a favourite destination among backpackers and honeymooners.

“We have begun our tourism campaign on the international front to attract large number of foreign tourists to the state, particularly Kashmir valley,” Mir told the Press Trust of India from Spain over phone.

The state tourism ministry has setup several stalls and publicity counters on the theme ‘Peace – prosperity and tourism’ at ‘Fitur’, annual international tourism fair in Madrid, which began today and will conclude on February 3.

Considered one of the biggest tourism and trade fairs across the globe, the delegation would promote the rich culture, scenic landscapes, resorts and other various attractions of the three regions of the state: Srinagar, Jammu and Ladakh.
