SRINAGAR: Kashmiri students in a Haryana college have appealed to the chief minister of state, Omar Abdullah for help as they say they are being harassed by local students and the college administration.
Students from Kashmir studying in Ganga Institute of Technology and Management, Jajjar, Haryana said they were being harassed by their fellow college-goers and hostel wardens, local agency KNS reports.
“We request the Chief Minister to take up the matter with the government here. Please ask him to do something for us as we are in a lot of trouble here”, said one of the students.
These students, 90 according to them are undergoing various professional courses like B.Tech. and BBA through the scholarship scheme of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).
They told the agency that the students there called them “terrorists”.
“Many of us were beaten by the locals and abusing us has become their habit. Nobody here comes to our rescue,” they said.
“We don’t want to study here. They hate us and make us feel insecure. We tried to escape and go home but they locked us up inside the hostel premises.”
The students also asked the civil society in Srinagar and New Delhi to come to their rescue.
