SRINAGAR, Dec 08: Army has rubbished a report prepared by a human rights organisation and an NGO that has accused the security forces of large-scale human rights abuses in Jammu and Kashmir since an armed revolt erupted in 1989.
Reports quoting an army spokesman from New Delhi said that the claim of abuses was “highly biased and motivated.”
Hundreds of serving soldiers, including senior officers, are being accused of involvement in widespread human rights abuses in Kashmir in a report “alleged Perpetrators” which was released by Association of Parents of Disappeared persons and the International People’s Tribunal on Human Rights and Justice in Kashmir on Thursday.
The allegations in the report by a team of legal activists, names 500 security personnel ranging from low-ranking policemen to army generals.
The names include many decorated and promoted army, CRPF and police officials.
“The culpability of the Army persons listed has not been established in any of the cases. The NGOs have stated clearly that they do not have conclusive evidence against any of the army personnel mentioned in their report,” reports quoted the army spokesman saying.
“It is thus evident that the Report is merely a collation of unsubstantiated allegations aimed at maligning the Army.”
