Mufti asks Delhi to help end ‘Israeli aggression’

SRINAGAR, Nov 20: Former Union Home Minister and patron of Kashmir’s main opposition People’s Democratic Party, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has urged India to intervene in what he said was Israeli aggression in Palestine.

A party statement said Mufti condemned Israel’s air strikes on Gaza which have resulted in more than a hundred deaths including women and children.

“The airstrikes have caused huge casualties of helpless people including children and damage to hard gained infrastructure,” the statement read.

The PDP patron urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to use his offices to broker a peace deal.

“India being the largest democracy in the world should take a lead in mobilising the world opinion in prevailing upon Israel to stop its aggression on the helpless Palestine”.

Meanwhile hard-line separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has asked people to protest after Friday prayers.

“We appeal to the Organisation of Islamic Conference. If they can’t do anything on ground they should at least put diplomatic pressure on Israel to stop the massacre,” Geelani said.

“Attack on Malala Yusufzai in Pakistan was in no way acceptable. But why are the people who were hurt after witnessing the plight of Malala seem in no pain when the blood of innocent children colors the streets of Gaza,” the octogenarian leader added.
