Kidnapped policeman rescued: Kashmir police

SRINAGAR, Sept 20: A police head constable who was abducted in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district by “miscreants” on Thursday was rescued by police and army jointly, a police spokesman said.

Mushtaq Ahmad, head constable was abducted allegedly by youth in old town of Baramulla allegedly to seek the release of their friends who were recently detained for stone pelting in the area.

“Baramulla Police immediately swung into action and planned a rescue with Army and rescued the kidnapped official from old town,” a police spokesman said.

He said a case FIR No: 197/2012 was registered in this regard in police station.

This is for the first time that unarmed youth have taken a policeman hostage in Kashmir since insurgency broke out in the state 23 years ago.
