Missing since flash flood, BSF officer’s body found

SRINAGAR, July 30: The body of a missing Border Security Force (BSF) officer, who along with a constable was washed away in a flash flood in Rajouri district on Thursday, was recovered after a 55-hour-long operation.

Sniffer dogs, army divers and personnel of the National Disaster Management Force in Rajouri’s Noushera belt were pressed into action to find the body of Deputy Commandant Tarun Gupta.

BSF officials said the “highly decomposed” body was found 28-km downstream near Julla bridge on Saturday evening and was brought to the BSF camp at Sunderbani where it was cremated on Sunday in front of senior BSF officers and Gupta’s family members.

The body of constable-driver Uday Kumar was found in a water channel close to the Line of Control on Friday.

It was brought to Jammu and was airlifted to his native place in Bangalore Friday, the officials said.

Gupta and Kumar had gone missing after their Maruti Gypsy was washed away in a flash flood while they were crossing the Seeri rivulet while patrolling the area near the forward belt along the Indo-Pak border.
