Kashmir drivers to get ‘lessons’ in good manners

SRINAGAR, July 27: Kashmir’s Tourism ministry has said it plans to inculcate etiquette among taxi drivers who ferry tourists around destinations in the scenic Himalayan region.

With violenece declining after two decades of armed rebellion, Kashmir is witnessing a booming tourist season this year with visitors from across the country and abroad flocking to the valley like never before.

Minister for Tourism, Nawang Rigzin Jora said training workshops will soon be organised for drivers related with tourism in all the three regions of the Jammu and Kashmir state.

The workshop will teach drivers etiquette and will also impart training for smooth and safe driving.

“We want to provide better hospitality to the tourists coming from every corner of the world,” an official spokesperson quoted Jora as saying.

The Minister was speaking at a meeting attended by his junior, Nasir Aslam Wani and officials of the tourism department besides representatives of Drivers’ associations.

At the meeting an animated video presentation was demonstrated through which various beneficial tips were imparted to representatives of drivers.

The workshop will be organised in collaboration with Mumbai based Global Travel and Hospitality Education Network.
