Pak trying to push militants into Kashmir: Home Secretary

SRINAGAR, July 26: In what could ensure the futility of efforts to resume cricketing ties with its neigbouring country, the Union Home Secretary has accused Pakistan-based militant groups of making “concerted” efforts to push their men into Jammu and Kashmir to disturb the prevailing peace.

Foreign ministers of India and Pakistan are set to meet in September to review the ongoing dialogue process and set in motion the direction for the next rounds of talks aimed at normalisng ties between the two countries which have fought at least three wars over Kashmir.

“The militant groups are making concerted attempts to push the terrorists through the border. Security forces are dealing with them,” R.K. Singh told reporters on Wednesday in country capital New Delhi.

Singh’s comments come just days after a top army commander said that the security situation in the valley was “alarming” after a series of gunbattles with militants in various places.

But Chief Minister dismissed such claims.”Nobody should make such statements. We have had large numbers of tourists visiting the state this year. Such statements can cause an alarm among the people,” he said.

Many media reports have quoted sources in the central intelligence agencies as saying that there were inputs which indicated that some militants belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashker-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Muhammed had crossed into the state during the month of May and that the second phase of similar infiltration took place in early July.

Two weeks ago, sources privy to the interrogation of arrested Mumbai attacks-accused Abu Jundal said that he had revealed information about militants of the Lashkar-e-Toiba planning “big strikes” in Kashmir.
