SRINAGAR: A nine-year-old girl has died after she was raped and buried alive in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, a rare incident of its kind in this Muslim-majority valley.
A local news agency, GNS, reports that the girl, a student of class 4, had gone missing after she went out to play going out to play.
She was found alive on Thursday, buried under a mound of rubble.
Her father told the agency that he found his daughter after hearing her screams in low tone and saw blood on her. The girl was rushed to a hospital in the district where she succumbed.
The incident triggered protests in the area, with protestors demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits.
Doctors have confirmed rape. Medical Superintendent of District Hospital, Baramulla, Dr. Bashir Ahmad told GNS that the girl died due to “Asphyxia (suffocation) and she was also sexually assaulted.”
Police has registered a case in this regard and has started investigation into the incident.
When contacted Superintendent of Police, Sopore, Imtiyaz Ahmed said “We are investigating the matter. As per the locals, the victim was found under mud in a mysterious condition.”
