This is the second time that cops have been arrested for extorting money this year.
SRINAGAR: Police in Srinagar say they have arrested four policemen for allegedly extorting money from a man.
Constables Bilal Ahmad Ganie, Javed Ahmad Lone, Showkat Ahmad Malik and Manzoor Ahmad Hajam have been arrested after investigations into a complaint by a man that they had forcibly taken a sum of Rs 50,000 thousand from him, a police statement said.
The man Shabir Ahmed Bhat is a resident of lachmanpora area in the city and the incident had happened at Solina area on April 3.
“A FIR no; 20/2013 under section 392/RPC was lodged in police station Shergarhi, Srinagar,” the statement said.
The statement added that further investigation in the matter is going on.
This is the second time that cops have been arrested for extortion of money this year.
On Jan 31, two policemen and a woman were arrested in Srinagar for running what police said was a seduction extortion racket.
The woman would lure a ‘catch’ into sexual activity at some place and the cops, in know of the plan, would stage a raid and then demand money from the victim man.
