SRINAGAR: The Army say it has killed five militants who were trying to cross the Line of Control and sneak into this side of Kashmir.
Defence Spokesman Naresh Vig told FreePress that the infiltration bid was foiled in Tangdar sector in the border district of Kupwara on Friday night.
“The operation is still going on and a search operation is progress,” army spokesman Vig added. “Five infiltrators were killed in the firing.”
Fears are growing of an escalation in rebel incursions into Kashmir from Pakistan before winter snow blocks the Himalayan mountain passes.

The fresh violence comes a day after five Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militants were killed in by security forces central district of Ganderbal.
A month ago, the Army had claimed to have killed about a dozen of the infiltrators in a series of encounters on the LoC.
However the Hindu newspaper reports that one of such encounters is in doubt with the recovery of a .12 bore gun.
It is believed that the men killed were the four ordinary civilians who Pakistani authorities claimed were kidnapped by Indian troops.
