JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested 25 gamblers and recovered Rs 1,54,650 stake money, playing cards from their possession in different gambling cases in Jammu region.
Police officials conducted raids yesterday evening in different parts of Jammu.
Cases under Gambling section stands registered at concerned police stations.
Police spokesperson said a police party under the supervision of SSP Kathua conducted raid at Chann Rorian area in Rajbagh of district Kathua and busted a gambling den and arrested nine gamblers.
The accused have been identified as Sourab Gupta, Pawan Kumar, Surinder Kumar, Rampaul, Yashpaul, Ashwani Kumar, Ravi Kumar, Kulbhushan and Janak Raj all residents of Chann Rorian.
Police also recovered Rs 55,050 and play cards from the den, he said.
A case under section 3/4/13 Gambling Act has been registered at Rajbagh Police Station and investigation started.
A police spokesperson also said in a similar incident developing a specific information police party led by SHO Dileep Singh conducted a raid at Rajpura outskirts of Jammu city and arrested five gamblers besides recovering Rs 21,000 and playing cards from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Rahul Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Anil Kumar Verma and Sohan Lal and a case under Gambling Act stands registered at Police Station Bakshi Nagar against the accused while further investigation is on.
In an another incident, Nagrota Police Station led under the supervision of SDPO Khalik Choudhary conducted raid in a location and arrested 11 gamblers with Rs 78,600 stake money and play cards.
The accused have been identified as Sham Khajuria, Sukesh Khajuria, Vicky Kumar, Raman Kumar, Sunny Baru, Sunil Sharma, Sandeep Abrol, Darshan Kumar, Pardeep Kumar, Suraj Atti, and Papu Kumar, police spokesperson said and added a case under Gambling Act has been registered at Nagrota Police Station.
