SRINAGAR: A person was killed and his granddaughter critically injured when a leopard attacked them in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, official sources said here today.
They said a 55-year-old Ghulam Hassan Ganie and his granddaughter Iqra Shafi were working in their field at Bongam Kunzar, in Baramulla when a leopard appeared there from nearby forest.
However, when the leopard attacked Iqra, Ganie tried to save her and in the process both were critically injured.
They were shifted to locals hospital where Ganie was declared brought dead while Iqra was referred to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in a critical condition.
People of the area protested against the wildlife department, alleging that the department has failed to take any action to stop infiltration of wild animal into villages.
